MRSA – this abbreviation stands for Methicillin-Resistant Staphylococcus aureus (also multiresistant Staphylococcus aureus) and refers to certain bacteria that cause purulent inflammations and are resistant to many antibiotics. Infections with these multiresistant pathogens are increasing worldwide over the last years and MRSA is therefore not only a medical but also a health economics problem.
